Description

A warm, hearty dish combining seasoned meat, fresh vegetables, and creamy mashed potatoes, perfect for chilly nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes (prepared)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or lamb until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion, diced carrots, and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for 5–7 minutes, until the vegetables are soft.
  4. Stir in the peas, beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes, letting the mixture thicken slightly.
  5. Transfer the meat mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread the meat evenly.
  6. Spoon the mashed potatoes over the meat, smoothing the top with a spatula. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese if you like.
  7. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes or until golden and bubbling on top.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes, garnish with parsley, and serve warm.

Notes

You can use leftover mashed potatoes for quicker prep. This dish can also accommodate additional vegetables like corn or green beans.
