Description
Delicious plant-based jackfruit wings that are crispy on the outside and tender inside, perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 15 oz can green jackfruit in brine
- 1/2 tsp cayenne
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp crushed black pepper
- 1/3 cup + 3 tbsp flour (divided)
- 3/4 cup unsweetened plant milk
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- Salt (to taste)
- About 1/2 cup canola oil (for frying)
- Optional: 1/4 cup barbecue or buffalo sauce
Instructions
- Drain and rinse the jackfruit. Cut it into pieces that are the size of wings. In a bowl, toss the jackfruit with cayenne, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper for flavor.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F. If baking, place the jackfruit in the oven for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway. If air frying, air fry for about 5 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix together 1/3 cup of flour, plant milk, baking soda, and a pinch of salt to create a batter. Coat the jackfruit pieces in this batter, then roll them in the remaining flour for extra crispiness.
- Heat the canola oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the coated jackfruit pieces for about 30 seconds on each side until golden brown. Use paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- Toss the cooked jackfruit wings in barbecue or buffalo sauce, if desired. Serve them with your favorite dips.
Notes
For a healthier option, consider baking the wings instead of frying for a crispier texture. Adjust the spices to your preference.
