Description
Deliciously soft and chewy pretzels coated in sweet cinnamon sugar, perfect for snacking or dessert.

- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Pour 1 cup of warm water into a small bowl and sprinkle the yeast over it.
- Stir in 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until dissolved, then let sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture and add melted butter.
- Stir until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 5 to 7 minutes.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and divide into 8 portions.
- Roll each portion into an 18-inch rope and shape into pretzels.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil, then add baking soda.
- Carefully drop each pretzel into the boiling water for 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush with beaten egg.
- Mix together granulated sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle over pretzels.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown, then cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
Make sure to use warm water for the yeast. Kneading the dough well contributes to texture. Don’t skip the boiling step for classic pretzel crust.
